Fundraisers

Monitors Foundation Fundraising Mission

The Monitors Foundation is a 501 c (3) [not for profit], tax exempt charitable organization. As such, it is empowered to engage in a verity of fundraising activities and projects to support its annual awards program.

The Monitors Foundation employs a verity of fundraising strategies, but its major activities consist of the Monitors Foundation Annual Solicitation, the Monitors-Penumbra Fundraising Event, and the Monitors Foundation Annual Golf Tournament. To fund its mission, the Board of Directors designed Plan to raise $1,000,000.

Funds raised by the Monitors Foundation go to build the Monitors Foundation Fund that is managed by the Minneapolis Foundation as a Donor Advised Fund. As a Donor Advised Fund, the Monitors Foundation Board of Director allocates annual awards for scholarships (i.e., the Gwen and Beck Horton Scholarship), pre-secondary student support and community-based organization grants.


Fundraising Campaigns

Annual Solicitation Campaign: This is conducted annually as an end-of-the-year solicitation campaign from Monitors members, friends, foundations, corporate supporters and other groups who support the educational, social and economic well-being of African American youth in the Twin Cities Metropolitan area. Annual Monitors-Penumbra Fundraising Event: This is conducted each Winter to support the Foundation’s Pre-secondary Support Award and other aspects of the Foundation’s award mission. The Pre-secondary Support Award is annually awarded to pre-secondary students or students’ family’s to attend extra-classroom experiences to enhance the leadership, social skill and well-being of African American males in the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Annual Golf Tournament Fundraising Event: This is held each Fall to support the Gwen and Beck Horton Scholarship and other aspects of the Foundation’s award mission. The Gwen and Beck Horton Scholarship is annually awarded to graduating African American males who have been admitted to an accredited post-secondary institution. The chair and contact person for this campaign is: Monitor Woody Fountain
